A Week of Prayer & Fasting

One Week. One Church. One Pursuit.

Prayer and Fasting

As we begin The Church's Reality, we're inviting our church to intentionally seek God through prayer and fasting. More than simply participating in a church-wide fast, we're inviting you to be part of something greater than yourself as we pursue God together. Before the early church stepped into its mission, they devoted themselves to prayer and depended on the Holy Spirit. We want to begin the same way.

Here is our Schedule for the Week:

  • Every morning (Mon-Fri) at 6am we will have a Zoom Prayer Meeting. The Zoom link is at the button below!

  • Text “FASTING” to 888-747-8292 for daily prayer prompts, Bible verses, encouragement and reminders.

  • Friday July 17th join us for a Night of Prayer and Worship to culminate our week. 7pm at UCity HQ 7140 Weddington Road Concord Suite 116.

Reasons Why We Fast:

  • Fasting is a spiritual discipline that carries an extra weight of importance. During Jesus’s ministry on earth we see he fasted in order to ready himself for what was ahead and receive strength from the Holy Spirit. (Matt. 4)

  • When we fast we join in the suffering of Jesus and his defense against Satan’s schemes. Our choice to fast shows a heart wide open acceptance to join in with the suffering that Jesus experienced for us and we intentionally ask God to help us take up confident authority against the devil.

  • The absence of food in our day gives us time and prompting for prayer. When we get a hunger pain, it reminds us to pray. When we would normally be preparing food, instead, we pray. (Dueterony 8:3)

So, we invite everyone who is physically able to participate in a from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

During those hours, refrain from food and use the time you would normally spend eating to pray, read Scripture, worship, and listen for God’s voice. Let your physical hunger become a reminder of your deeper hunger for God.

If you are pregnant, nursing, have a medical condition, or have other health concerns, please choose a modified fast that allows you to participate safely. Fasting should never put your health at risk. The goal isn’t legalism—it’s intentional dependence on God.

Modified Fasting Options

If a sunrise-to-sunset food fast isn’t the best option for you, consider one of these alternatives:

· Fast from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

· Fast from 6:00 AM to Noon.

· Fast from Noon to 6:00 PM

Whatever type of fast you choose, let it create more space for God’s presence in your life. The focus isn’t simply what you’re giving up—it’s Who you’re drawing closer to.

Practical Tips on How To Fast

  • Decide on your level of fasting, we recommend a no food fast. No solid food or meals, just clear liquids to keep hydrated.

  • If you normally drink coffee, still do so. No cream, or sugar.

  • Make a list of all the things (be specific) that you are going to pray through at the start of our fasting time. Pick some personal prayers, as well as pray for the work God is doing in and through UCity.

  • Search your heart to see if you have anything against anyone. Pray for God’s guidance for what He may want you to do to reconcile and forgive.

  • "They all joined together constantly in prayer..."
